Children's Choir Children's ChoirWhen: Sunday mornings 10:45 - 11:15 a.m. For those younger members of our congregation, the music program offers the Children's Choir. This choir invites our younger members to share in the exciting and diverse choral experiences of First UU's music program. The Children's Choir is scheduled to sing monthly and at special services with the Adult Choir. We encourage middle school children to participate.
Coming of Age ProgramWhen: Once or Twice a month September to June This special program helps youth transition from child to adult. Students are matched with an adult mentor. Together they attend special classes focusing on our UU faith, peer pressure, facing fears and more. They also participate in social events and explore their religious beliefs. The completion of the program includes an initiation weekend and Coming of Age Ceremony and Celebration in which each young person reads aloud their personal credos. $130 participation fee. Scholarships are available.
Our Whole Lives (OWL)When: Sunday mornings 11:30 a.m. A comprehensive sexuality curriculum that includes topics such as: self-awareness/body awareness; examining values, language, anatomy, physiology, gender roles, gender equality, relationship skills and much, much, more. Regular attendance is mandatory. Parents must attend the orientation meeting. All participants must have a signed parental permission slip on file.Sunday
Sunday Middle School Religious EducationWhen: Sunday mornings, 6th and 7th/8th grade 11:30 a.m. Children's Religious Education programming consists of participating in the first few minutes of each Sunday morning worship service, participating in classes that involve life issues, spiritual growth, Unitarian Universalist identity and history, Biblical literacy, world religions and the environment. Check here for specific curriculum information. We recruit over 65 volunteers to teach most of our classes. Our professional staff includes an Interim Minister of Religious Education, an Assistant Director of Religious Education, Lead Youth Advisor. To participate in our program we ask that you register your middle-schooler so we know how many participants we will plan for, so we know how to communicate with you and so we are alerted to anything like allergies. There is no cost for registration, but we expect that you will participate in the annual stewardship campaign with as much generosity as is possible.
