Good and Services Auction fundraiser
When: Every spring Co-auctioneered by two members of the congregation, this auction/party is a wonderful event. Many goods and loads of services are donated by members and friends of First UU and also by some community businesses. Anything from a week at a Michigan summer cottage to a pet sitter can be purchased either through the silent auction or the live auction. There is a different theme each year and dinner is included in the price of admission. Look for this on the congregational calendar and don't miss it.
Selected Chalice CirclesWhen: New Chalice Circles form every September and last through May Join Us on the Quest for Spiritual Growth and Fellowship. Are you looking for a way to deepen your spirituality and understanding of Unitarian Universalism in a small group setting? Consider a new eight month adventure which begins each fall when groups of 8-12 spiritual explorers gather to form a Chalice Circle. Trained co-leaders will guide the quest. Childcare is available for selected chalice circles.
Sunday Services and Religious Education
Sunday Services: Sundays, September - May at 9:30 or 11:30AM and a single 10:00AM service June - August Where: FUUAA Sunday is the congregation's time to be one. Sunday services are an opportunity for the First UU congregants of all beliefs, interests, and backgrounds to come together in worship and rejoice in our spiritual connectedness and shared values. Check on our latest sermon topics. During Sunday service times, we offer special programming for nursery through twelfth grade.

Adult classesWhen: Check the adult classes listing for specific dates and times The First Unitarian Universalist Congregation offers a wide variety of classes taught by ministers, staff, members of the congregation, and guest speakers. . We do not charge fees for classes unless food is provided or special materials are needed. If a fee is charged, you may provide payment by cash, check, or credit card. Checks should be payable to First UU Congregation with the course name included in the memo line. Full or partial scholarships are available upon request. Child care can be arranged at no charge, but you must request it one week before the event.
Klein LectureWhen: Every fall This annual lecture held each year in the fall is dedicated to the memory of Robert and Ruth Klein that their spirit-the spirit of peace, goodwill and justice-might flourish. The Klein Lectureship is sponsored through memorial funds donated by friends of Robert and Ruth Klein and their children, Fred and Andrew. Donations to the Klein Memorial Lecture Fund are welcome and will enable us to continue to present these fine lectures.
Sunday ForumsWhen: Check the Sermons and Forums listing for specific dates and times These conversations with either First UU leaders or outside community leaders bring together the diverse resources of our community to provide a wellspring for inspiration, insight, and knowledge. A time for questions and discussion will follow the presentation by our speakers.
Children welcome to attend with an adult
Alpha House - Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) - working with kidsWhen: Our congregation volunteers for 3-4 weeks a year, you can volunteer for part of one day IHN is a network of Ann Arbor congregations that supports housing up to six homeless families, mostly children, at Alpha House on Jackson Road. For one week at a time, about 3-4 times a year, 45 volunteers from our congregation bring food, diapers, and other necessities. We can stay overnight, cook and serve food, play with children and tutor them. UU's have many opportunities to teach our own children to help other families in need. The current IHN Board President is Don Anderson, a member of our congregation. Campout at First UUAAWhen: Once in fall and once in spring Celebrate the beginning of fall and spring with a family campout on the First UU land. Join This event is weather permitting and will be cancelled if the forecasted low
Craft BoUUtiqueWhen: TBD The annual holiday Craft BoUUtique is held on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. We ask members and friends of First UU to donate hand made crafts to be sold during coffee hour. Check the newsletter each Fall to learn more about how you can participate as a donor, a baker or a buyer! The assortment is wide and wonderful. Some examples of items donated are watercolor prints, hand knit sweaters, scarves, gloves and hats, jewelry, pottery, hand painted greeting cards, wreaths and always a nice selection of items made by the children during Friday Night Live nights. All profits go to the operating budget of the church.
CROP/Hunger WalkWhen: Ever October The annual Washtenaw County CROP/Hunger Walk is coordinated by the Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice and sponsored by the Church World Service CROP Walk. Held every October many members of the congregation participate in this walk to raise money to address hunger.
Infant/Toddler PlaygroupWhen: Tuesday mornings, 10:00am Get to know other mothers and fathers of infants and toddlers! The First UU Infant and Toddler Playgroup has been very active.
LUUnch BUUnchWhen: 2nd Wednesday of every month 11:45AM - 1:00PM Please join us for LUUnch, a casual, informal monthly get together where we can eat and chat with one another. Everyone is welcome (kids, too!) and there is no set agenda. It is a nice way to meet people in the congregation and relax a bit. Typically about 6 to 10 people attend, and there is a mix of "regulars" and newcomers. Sometimes one of the ministers attends as well. Drop in and look for our table.
Round Robin Summer PicnicWhen: 2nd Saturday afternoon of each month from July to September Each month from July to September we have a picnic for all Round Robin participants and prospective participants on the second Saturday afternoon of each month. Many of the picnics are family friendly events.
Seasonal Ritual GroupWhen: 8 rituals each year The Seasonal Ritual group hosts 8 rituals each year to acknowledge the rhythm of the changing of seasons and to celebrate the earth's bounty. The sponsored rituals include Summer and Winter Solstice, Spring and Fall Equinox and the four mid-season celebrations: Samhain, Imbolc, Beltane, and Lughnasadh. The rituals are pagan-based, family-friendly events that are held either in the Grove or in the Fahs chapel. They typically include songs, a dance, a skit, a seasonal craft and a meditation. There is a listserve for anyone interested in being informed about upcoming events.
Family Camp
When: August 27-30, 2010. Join dozens of other UU families for a long weekend of fun, relaxed time basking in the sun, splashing in the water or hiking through the woods. For many years, YMCA Camp Pinewood has been committed to helping families have fun. Take time to play together this summer! Individuals and families of all compositions and ages are encouraged and welcome to attend! You can enjoy sailing, swimming, hiking, moutain biking, canoeing, archery, high ropes courses, climbing walls, bonfires, sing-alongs and much, much more! There are counselor led activities for kids, giving adults plenty of time to unwind on their own. Online registration coming soon, you can print the PDF registration form and mail it to the church office.
Sunday Social HourWhen: After each Sunday service Social hour is a wonderful opportunity to get to know other congregants and see what is currently going on in the Congregation. Various groups, such as the Social Justice Council, Habitat for Humanity, Religious Education, and many, many more have display tables to exhibit their latest projects and provide opportunities for you to sign up for activities of interest to you. This is also a time to just relax, enjoy a snack, and socialize with other congregants, young and old. A children's area is available in the social hall. All are welcome!
