Sacred Womyn in Song & Spirit: A musical adventure in building a beloved Womyn’s community

Offered by: The UUAA Womyn’s Community

Intended audience: All who identify as womyn

  • Session 1) Tips and Tricks for Building Harmony in Group Singing – Led by Shelley Graff. Have you heard others break off from the main melody with an enchanting descant and wished for the confidence to try it yourself? This fun workshop will give you the tools to be that singer who helps to weave stronger connections through musical harmony.
  • Session 2) Drummunity: Building Community Spirit through Drumming – Led by Lori Fithian. You’re sure to enjoy this exciting, hands-on, multi-generational program with a message of community-building, peace, diversity, wellness, ecology, and rhythmic fun! Lori will help us deepen our connections with her unique style of fun that happens when people come together in a circle of drums.
  • Potluck Dinner (Main Dishes catered/Salads & Desserts brought by attendees)
  • Session 3) Singing in Sacred Circle – Led by Shelley Graff. Singing in Sacred Circle is an opportunity for each woman to look into her sisters’ eyes and share voice and spirit through song. While learning short, repetitive women-centered songs/chants from a wide variety of traditions, power rises from the center of the circle as all voices create an energy that is both empowering and healing. Regardless of singing experience, women are invited to share their voices in a noncompetitive, relaxed, safe space. Percussion instruments are welcome! Come sing along!
  • Desserts and Farewell Conversation

Presenters . . .

  • Shelley Graff, our facilitator and lead presenter, is a feminist singer, songwriter, guitarist, healer and educator. She has brought her empowering Singing in Sacred Circle workshops to many past UUAA Womyn’s Retreats. Shelley’s folksy, personable approach to performing and facilitating Singing In Sacred Circle workshops, draws her audiences down a path of political inquiry, peace, healing, and transformation. Personal empowerment and transformation are the common themes that Shelley’s strong and steady voice projects as she shares her stories through song. Shelley Graff is a true visionary who believes in remembering the past, focusing on the present, and dreaming about the future! Shelley believes her sacred journey is guiding her to share the Singing In Sacred Circle experience with other women. Shelley has traveled around the country for the past three decades sharing her original songs in performances as well as gathering women to sing in circle. Shelley has three CDS, Moon Mama (original feminist folk songs about women’s lives) and two “Singing In Sacred Circle” CDs with original women’s songs/chants, Fire On The Arrow and Coming Home. Shelley’s work was influenced by and is a tribute to the work of the late Kay Gardner. Please visit or for additional information about Shelley’s work and journey.
