Ninth - Twelfth Grades - Young Religious Unitarian Universalists (YRUU)
The YRUU has many activities outside of Sunday mornings, sometimes focused on fun, spiritual celebration, and youth bonding and sometimes focused on active social justice and community service. Common activities include buying holiday gifts for Peace Neighborhood Center children and going on a week-long summer service project. The YRUU holds an annual rummage sale. This g |

roup is lead by a youth ministry coordinator or a lead youth advisor who is assisted by volunteer youth advisors. The Young Religious Unitarian Universalist group (YRUU) addresses the educational, spiritual and community service needs of youth in grades 9 through 12. Youth are empowered to select a course of study for the academic year that is in keeping with our UU principles. This year's Sunday morning curriculum will cover Nature, Consumerism and Racism. The YRUU also gather on the second Saturday each month for community building and fun. These events, called Gnomeapaloozas, are opportunities for youth to deepen friendships. Past Gnomeapaloozas have included a visit to a haunted house, swing dancing lessons, games, cards, movies and fun! The YRUU build houses for Habitat for Humanity each summer. They've built homes in Brandenburg, KY, Muskegon, MI and Cheboygan, MI. The service project ends with a fun activity such as canoeing, water sports, caving or visiting an amusement park. Decisions regarding YRUU activities are made by representative youth with adult guidance and input. This committee, the Gnome Action Committee, looks for ways to enrich the YRUU experience and integrate the YRUU into the 1st UU of AA community. The YRUU is also active at the UU District Level through attendance at weekend, theme-oriented youth conferences. The YRUU also attend General Assembly every three or four years.
