PEACE begins when the hungry are fed.CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. Join the 2010 CROP HUNGER WALKOctober 10th, 2:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church(Registration begins at 1:00 pm.) "We walk because they walk" - in solidarity and in unity - "Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty". Some 2,000 communities across the country participate in CROP events each year. Our congregation has always proudly ranked among the top fund raisers for our local CROP Walk. Money raised is divided between international and local agencies that work to alleviate hunger. The following agencies will each get part of the local contributions: L.O.V.E. thy Neighbor (First United Methodist), SOS Community Crisis Center, Avalon Housing, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Peace Neighborhood Center, Aid in Milan, Catholic Social Services, Packard Health, Community Action Network, St. Andrew's Breakfast Program, and Hope Clinic. This year canned goods collected will help Northfield Human Services and Emmanuel House. Please join the Walk, or sponsor a walker. The 2009 CROP took place October 18th. 2009Thank you to everyone who donated food, sponsored walkers or who walked in this year's CROP Walk. It was a BEAUTIFUL autumn day for walking to bear witness to the fact of hunger in a World that should have Enough For All. Preliminary numbers say that over 500 walkers from 60 different faith communities and organizations participated in the 2009 walk, raising over $40,000 for local and international hunger programs. Our First UU Ann Arbor team raised over $4000 and contributed 8 bags of canned food to this very worthy cause. AND we had fun taking part!
What a beautiful autumn afternoon to walk for a good cause.

Since 1975 First UU AA has been an active participant in the annual Washtenaw County CROP Hunger Walk organized by the Ann Arbor Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice as an interfaith response to local and world hunger. In the last 35 years walkers from some 50 area congregations and schools have raised more than one million dollars to assist both local and international agencies in relieving hunger and addressing its root causes.
Thank you to everyone at First UUAA who supported the 2009 Washtenaw County CROP Walk. For more information....
